Curriculum

Apprenticeship Classes run for two weeks every six months with On-the-job training occurring when apprentices are not in class.  Safety certification classes will be conducted on various weekends. All Jiw's are welcome to all Training and will need to schedule through Our training director Kevin Wehling.

Weld Shop is open every Tuesday from 8am to 9pm and 4th Saturday of every Month from 8am-4pm . Please call Travis or Kevin Wehling for Appointment at 813-623-1515

Applicable Safety Certifications and Training Dates, July to December, 2025

  • MSHA 24-New Miner: September 20, 21, and 28  -  October 11, 12, and 18
    ( Must attend all classes to receive card) 
  • Phosphate Refresher: Jul 12, Aug 2, Sep 13, Oct 4, Nov 1, Nov 15, Dec 6
  • Silica for Construction: Jul 31 -- 8am - 12pm
  • First Aid / CPR / AED: Aug 1 -- 8am - 3:30pm
  • Scaffold User: Aug 4 and 6 -- 6pm - 9pm
  • Scaffold Erector/Dismantler: Aug 9 -- 7am - 3:30pm
  • First Aid / CPR / AED: Aug 15 -- 8am - 3:30pm
  • Silica for Construction: Aug 14 -- 8am - 12pm
  • High Reach Training: Aug 29 -- 12pm - 4pm
  • Fork Lift Training: Oct 17 -- 7am - 3:30pm
  • Foreman Training: Nov 18-21 -- 7am - 5:30pm

Reinforcing Concrete / General Maintenance: Jul 21 - Aug 1 and Aug 4 - Aug 15

  • The fabrication and placement of steel bars in concrete.
  • Whole numbers, common fractions, decimal fractions, percentages, averages, measurements.
  • Conveyors, Industrial safety

Structural Steel Erection: Aug 18 - Aug 29

  • Safely erecting steel structures, bridges, towers, wind turbines and amusement park structures.
  • Safely erect Pre-Engineered Metal Building Systems

Welding 1: Sep 8 - Sep 19

  • Welding safety, theory, quality, electrodes, basic metallurgy, equipment set up, various processes, oxy fuel, carbon arc and plasma arc cutting.
  • At the completion of this course the student will be certified to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and D1.5 welding codes in the Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes.

Welding 2 and 3: Sep 22 -Oct 3

  • Welding safety, theory, quality, electrodes, basic metallurgy, equipment set up, various processes, oxy fuel, carbon arc and plasma arc cutting.
  • At the completion of this course the student will be certified to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and D1.5 welding codes in the Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes.

Rigging and Cranes: Oct 6 - Oct 17 

  • Rigging procedures and precautions, characteristics of various fiber and wire ropes, the proper use of slings, rigging hardware, tools and devices. The crane portion involves pre-lift planning and set up, principles of crane operation, quadrants, load charts, capacity factors and crane signaling.

Architectural and Ornamental/Pre-Cast Concrete Erection: Oct 27 -Nov 7

  • Installing curtain walls, window walls, doors, store fronts, composite panel walls, catwalks, grating, stairs,  and the proper application of various sealants.

Blue Print Reading / Foreman Training: Nov 10 -Nov 21

  • Reading and interpreting: Welding, architectural, rigging, structural, and reinforcing steel drawings. Foreman Training: Leadership skills such as effective communication, problem solving, proper documentation, safety and quality control and team building

Comet: Nov 21, 7am-11am

Lead Hazard: Nov 20, 7am-11am

Harassment Training: Sept 19, 7am-10am
